SAI: Italian radial piston motors for LSHT applications

SAI S.p.A. is an Italian company based in Carpi (Modena) that has specialized for over fifty years in the design and manufacture of radial piston hydraulic motors for LSHT (Low Speed High Torque) applications. The group operates a single Italian production facility, is ISO 9001 certified, and is one of the few European players specializing exclusively in high-torque radial motors, in direct competition with Hägglunds (Bosch Rexroth) and Denison Calzoni (Parker).

SAI’s portfolio includes the GM, GS, and GT series of radial piston motors with displacements ranging from 100 to over 7,000 cm³/rev, operating pressures up to 350 bar, and output torques up to 70 kNm in the largest configurations. Typical applications include marine winches and capstans, crawler and port crane drives, steel rolling mills, TBM excavation machines, crushers and mills for the mining sector, and special drives on rail vehicles. The direct-drive design eliminates the need for intermediate mechanical gearboxes, simplifying the system.

TFS Oleodinamica, a Bosch Rexroth Certified Excellence Service Partner since 1997 and currently undergoing certification as a Hägglunds Service Partner, is a service center for SAI radial piston motors installed in industrial and heavy-duty mobile applications.

• Repair and overhaul of SAI GM/GS/GT series motors on the TFS test bench, including replacement of bearings, shafts, piston distributors, clearance recalibration, and load testing.
• SAI ↔ Hägglunds ↔ Denison Calzoni cross-reference: TFS is one of the few distributors in Italy with direct expertise in the three major LSHT brands, enabling seamless replacements and upgrades between them.
• Complete replacement with Hägglunds CA/CAb/CB motors of the same class when SAI replacement parts have excessive lead times or when the customer seeks standardization on a single brand.
• Original SAI spare parts with access to the official Italian channel and document management for customer ISO 9001 audits.
